The moniker 'Sumi and Me' pays homage to my grandmother, Masumi, whose name means 'true purity; increasing beauty' in Japanese.
My story
Ever since my childhood, I've been captivated by the intricate workings of the world and the artistry in its creation. I owe this insatiable curiosity to my parents, whose unwavering support has fueled my lifelong quest for knowledge and growth (and yes, they're still my biggest cheerleaders).
This profound curiosity has kindled a relentless desire to master a diverse range of skills, from the delicate craft of weaving and spinning to the visual arts of photography, digital marketing, and graphic design. I've dedicated years to honing my expertise in visual design, communications, content creation, social media marketing, local SEO, and media development. I confidently blend creativity, precision, and practicality to yield outstanding results in the ever-evolving realm of digital marketing.
I’ve been happily married to my husband, Jake, since 2013. It was in that same year that we embarked on our joint venture, Jake & Kim Photo & Film, where we explore the world of photography, video production, and graphic design together. My journey into weaving began in early 2016, followed by the art of spinning my own yarns in 2019.
The moniker 'Sumi and Me' pays homage to my grandmother, Masumi, whose name means 'true purity; increasing beauty' in Japanese—something she modeled really well, especially in the later stages of her life. She introduced me to the captivating universe of fiber art, encompassing crochet, sewing, embroidery, and more. Most importantly, she displayed an unwavering commitment to trusting, knowing, and following Jesus Christ.
Sumi and Me isn't just about creating beautiful art; it's also about fostering a sense of community. I believe that art has the power to bring people together, to tell stories, and to celebrate the richness of human creativity. Through tutorials, collaborations, and shared demonstrations, my aim is to create a space where individuals can connect, learn, and be inspired by the world of fiber art & creative graphic design.
Through this venture, I've had the privilege of connecting with an array of remarkable artists—both online and in person—who continually inspire me and lend their support in unique and wonderful ways. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to connect with you, whether it's to answer your inquiries, explore collaborative possibilities, or simply exchange a friendly greeting.
Thank you for stopping by, and thank you to those who have supported me over the years!
